Background of the Study
Telephone follow-up is a cost-effective and convenient way to provide continued care for chemotherapy patients, especially those who may have difficulty attending in-person visits. Nurse-led telephone follow-up can help manage symptoms, provide emotional support, and ensure timely intervention. This study will explore the impact of nurse-led telephone follow-up on symptom management in chemotherapy patients at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
Statement of the Problem
Chemotherapy patients often experience a range of symptoms, including nausea, fatigue, pain, and emotional distress, which can be challenging to manage without continuous support. While in-person visits are crucial, telephone follow-up offers a way to extend care beyond the clinic. This study seeks to evaluate the effectiveness of nurse-led telephone follow-up in improving symptom management for chemotherapy patients.
Objectives of the Study
To assess the impact of nurse-led telephone follow-up on the symptom management of chemotherapy patients at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital.
To determine the types of symptoms most effectively managed through telephone follow-up.
To evaluate patient satisfaction with nurse-led telephone follow-up care.
Research Questions
How effective is nurse-led telephone follow-up in managing symptoms of chemotherapy patients?
Which chemotherapy-related symptoms are most effectively addressed through telephone follow-up?
What is the level of patient satisfaction with nurse-led telephone follow-up care?
Research Hypotheses
Nurse-led telephone follow-up significantly improves symptom management in chemotherapy patients.
Patients who receive nurse-led telephone follow-up report higher levels of satisfaction compared to those who do not.
Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study will focus on chemotherapy patients at University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital who receive nurse-led telephone follow-up care. Limitations may include variability in the types of symptoms experienced by patients and the potential for bias in self-reported data on symptom severity and satisfaction.
